Marriage and college are two things that turned out to be much less useful than I was led to believe when growing up.

Lots 1 and 2 at Heinz Field comes pretty damn close.
I didn’t see Penn State’s handling of the Jerry Sandusky Scandal mentioned anywhere-that’s got to be Top Ten at least.
The Sandusky scandal doesn’t fit in with the “Liberals are bad” narrative.
This also applies to “editorial process” at Fox “News”.
Nice to see that your Fox News Derangement Syndrome is alive and well. Which unbiased network did you watch last night?
I guess they recognize a difference between dumb and criminal.

He discovered that “Travels With Charley” by John Steinbeck is a fraud and his story received international attention. The profs who read his piece said, “So what?” and continued to treat it as non-fiction.

Three Cups of Tea isn’t the only famous non-fiction book to be accused of fraud lately. Just a few weeks ago, print journalist Bill Steigerwald wrote an article for Reason that meticulously documented frequent and egregious errors in John Steinbeck’s supposedly non-fictional travelogue, Travels with Charley. Steigerwald, who first discovered the inaccuracies while trying to reproduce the travel route from the book, was surprised—and eventually, upset—at the hostile reaction his findings received from scholars of Steinbeck.
One such scholar, Susan Shillinglaw of San Jose State University, was quoted in a New York Times article asking, with regard to the fabrications, “Does it really matter that much?”
The comment earned her a rebuke from a subsequent editorial in the Times that concurred with Steigerwald’s reporting. “It is irritating that some Steinbeck scholars seem not to care,” the article declared.
This indifference also riled Steigerwald, who believes that scholars are willing to ignore the shortcomings of Travels With Charley in part because they agree with the book’s politically liberal message.
“Scholars for 50 years not only didn’t notice this, which I think is absurd, but when they find out, they don’t care,” he said. “They try to excuse it and justify it, and say, ‘Well, it doesn’t really matter.’ ”
I am amazed, I know I shouldn’t be, but I am. God help us all, because these are kids who will lead my future!!
The thing that amazes me today with authors like Three Cups of Tea and James Frey’s book, A Million Little Pieces, is they think no one will fact check them. I saw Frey on Oprah, and listened to him being so egotistical about being in rehab. My dad was an alcoholic and I remember him going through St. Francis’ rehab, they would never have allowed anyone to behave the way he said he behaved. And then he bragged that he had two root canals with out Novocaine because he was a recovering drug addict and was afraid he would relapse if he took it. Dumbass, all Novocaine does is numb the nerves so you don’t feel anything. And no dentist, would ever do a root canal without giving something to deadened the nerves. I knew he was lying through his teeth. Oprah’s own people never vetted his book, then she got all indigent when he was proven to be a liar, and she looked like a fool.
Most people, not all, have been so dumbed down that they will believe anything. Integrity and responsibility have been tossed to the wayside.
