Crash: I don't expect you to take my word for it. After all, I'm just a guy who watches the games. How about learning from a guy who was on the field with Roethlisberger throughout the 2008 season?
In an interview that appeared in the Tribune-Review on April 22, 2010, former Steelers tackle Marvel Smith told columnist John Harris the following about the 2008 season:
``Ben (Roethlisberger) wasn't the one making us win. It was a team effort. We wouldn't have made it to (Super Bowl XLIII) if it wasn't for the defense. The defense won so many games for us that year. We (the offense) put the defense in so many bad situations. The offense made that last play (in the Super Bowl) that everybody remembers, but the defense got us there.''
Crash; Your obsession with Roethlisberger is remarkable.
I'll say this about Ben: He's a great two-minute quarterback ... as long as he is throwing against prevent defenses, which he didn't see many of last season. He certainly saw one in the final minutes of Super Bowl XLIII.
Are you that worried that Byron Leftwich is going play well enough to get Roethlisberger traded? If not, maybe you should be.

If Polamula were an ordinary safety, I'd accept your sarcasum. If you haven't figured it out by now that Polamula is special, that's your problem, not mine.
Roethlisberger has regressed from his brilliant 2005 postseason performances. Sorry to be the one to tell ya.

Q: How were the Steelers winning against the Raiders at the half?
A: By the skin of their teeth!!!
The Steelers clung to a 10-6 lead, which would have been by more had Roethlisberger not thrown a red-zone pick right before half. Twice in the first half, the Steelers came away with no points after reaching the red zone.
That was quite an offensive outburst by the defending Super Bowl champs at home against the 3-8 Raiders. Both Ben and Bruce can be proud!!!
Roethlisberger's first half stats: 8 of 13 for 112 yards, 1 TD and 1 critical interception. By the way: Rashard Mendenhall rushed for 67 yards on 7 carries in that first half.
Had Roethlisberger not turned the ball over in the end zone and actually gotten his team into the end zone, that game would have been OVER. Instead, he kept the underdog Raiders in the hunt
I'm sticking by my original assessment: Roethlisberger was stymied for more than three quarters.

"I’m almost convinced that was Ben being stymied for three and a half quarters against the Raiders."

Then how were they winning at half Bob?

What you saw that game was EVERY TIME the Steelers scored points, the defense gave up points as soon as they went back on the field.

And the red zone pick in KC? Ben was hit as he threw, Ward was wide open in the corner.

"Roethlisberger also threw three picks for TDs, which certainly didn’t help matters"

It was two.

Holmes ran the wrong route in Cincy.

They won against Detroit.

He's not responsible for every single win, just like he's not responsible for every single thing that goes wrong.

But without him this team doesn't have two rings in the last six years.

Period.

"MPM: Wrong!!! The defense’s play is going to be the deciding factor. The Steelers’ offense has been dazed and confused since the arrival of Bruce Ariens as the OC."

I guess you missed 2007 Bob?

"n 2008, the Steelers’ defense overcame the team’s inconsistent offense, led by an inconsistent quarterback, and the lack of a quality punter."

Yeah, the defense really looked good when they gave 4th quarter leads in 2008 only to see the offense score points to win.

"Byron Leftwich is a proven quarterback, even if Herm Edwards and the ESPN experts disagree"

Yeah, proven he can't find steady work as a starter. 5 teams in 5 years at 29.

"Ben Roethlisberger was voted by his peers before the start of last season as the NFL’s most overrated player for a reason"

Yeah, because he's won since he came into the league.

Just look at the 2007 and '09 seasons, when Polamula was hurt and on the bench. Both of those seasons featured promising starts that ended in wimpers.
Polamula makes plays I've never seen anyone ever before make. Ever. There's no question in my mind that he means far more to his team than any overrated, distraction-causing quarterback.
