While there are obviously some educated, bright and mainstream people who believe in their cause….there are just as many who are social misfits looking for acceptance into some type of group and sucking on the government teet. I’d imagine an accurate reflection of this occupy group would reveal the same 50/50 ish breakdown.
I seriously doubt the same breakdown. I have been to multiple tea parties – there might be one or two goofs standing on the perimeter, everyone else tends to be middle america.
And if someone had tens of thousands confiscated from them for a promise when they were older – why shouldnt they demand a return on that?
The problem with that is the gov’t then needs to confiscate from me to keep that promise.
If the federal government sold some of the ridiculous amount of land that it owns, it could pay for a lot of things.

He’s not nearly conservative enough. I think what everybody is missing in the Republican polls is that Romney is not getting as much support as the conservative candidates. The conservative vote is fragmented. That’s how the Republicans ended up with McCain, who was ay 16% at this point in 2007.
No way Cain is dropping out. In fact, I believe he’ll win the nomination. Come election time, it’ll be “Cain vs. Unable.”

The irony is that the genesis of both come from the same place. One are hailed on one side as patriots, the other morons…and vice versa depending on your political persuasion. The difference? The tea party is bankrolled by some major players in the political landscape and endorsed by a news network and being placated by one party Not so sure these guys have that kind of support. The similarity? For any idea to become a movement, you need numbers. Morons count and help fill in the blank spaces just as much as ideological purists.

Zogby Poll: Almost No Obama Voters Ace Election Test
UTICA, New York — Just 2% of voters who supported Barack Obama on Election Day obtained perfect or near-perfect scores on a post election test which gauged their knowledge of statements and scandals associated with the presidential tickets during the campaign, a new Zogby International telephone poll shows.

Only 54% of Obama voters were able to answer at least half or more of the questions correctly.
The 12-question, multiple-choice survey found questions regarding statements linked to Republican presidential candidate John McCain and his vice-presidential running-mate Sarah Palin were far more likely to be answered correctly by Obama voters than questions about statements associated with Obama and Vice-President – Elect Joe Biden. The telephone survey of 512 Obama voters nationwide was conducted Nov. 13-15, 2008, and carries a margin of error of +/- 4.4 percentage points. The survey was commissioned by John Ziegler, author of The Death of Free Speech, producer of the recently released film “Blocking the Path to 9/11″ and producer of the upcoming documentary film, Media Malpractice…How Obama Got Elected.
“We stand by the results our survey work on behalf of John Ziegler, as we stand by all of our work. We reject the notion that this was a push poll because it very simply wasn’t. It was a legitimate effort to test the knowledge of voters who cast ballots for Barack Obama in the Nov. 4 election. Push polls are a malicious effort to sway public opinion one way or the other, while message and knowledge testing is quite another effort of public opinion research that is legitimate inquiry and has value in the public square. In this case, the respondents were given a full range of responses and were not pressured or influenced to respond in one way or another. This poll was not designed to hurt anyone, which is obvious as it was conducted after the election. The client is free to draw his own conclusions about the research, as are bloggers and other members of society. But Zogby International is a neutral party in this matter. We were hired to test public opinion on a particular subject and with no ax to grind, that’s exactly what we did. We don’t have to agree or disagree with the questions, we simply ask them and provide the client with a fair and accurate set of data reflecting public opinion.” – John Zogby
“After I interviewed Obama voters on Election Day for my documentary, I had a pretty low opinion of what most of them had picked up from the media coverage of the campaign, but this poll really proves beyond any doubt the stunning level of malpractice on the part of the media in not educating the Obama portion of the voting populace,” said Ziegler.
Ninety-four percent of Obama voters correctly identified Palin as the candidate with a pregnant teenage daughter, 86% correctly identified Palin as the candidate associated with a $150,000 wardrobe purchased by her political party, and 81% chose McCain as the candidate who was unable to identify the number of houses he owned. When asked which candidate said they could “see Russia from their house,” 87% chose Palin, although the quote actually is attributed to Saturday Night Live’s Tina Fey during her portrayal of Palin during the campaign. An answer of “none” or “Palin” was counted as a correct answer on the test, given that the statement was associated with a characterization of Palin.
Obama voters did not fare nearly as well overall when asked to answer questions about statements or stories associated with Obama or Biden — 83% failed to correctly answer that Obama had won his first election by getting all of his opponents removed from the ballot, and 88% did not correctly associate Obama with his statement that his energy policies would likely bankrupt the coal industry. Most (56%) were also not able to correctly answer that Obama started his political career at the home of two former members of the Weather Underground.
Nearly three quarters (72%) of Obama voters did not correctly identify Biden as the candidate who had to quit a previous campaign for President because he was found to have plagiarized a speech, and nearly half (47%) did not know that Biden was the one who predicted Obama would be tested by a generated international crisis during his first six months as President.
In addition to questions regarding statements and scandals associated with the campaigns, the 12-question, multiple-choice survey also included a question asking which political party controlled both houses of Congress leading up to the election — 57% of Obama voters were unable to correctly answer that Democrats controlled both the House and the Senate.
You’re proving my point….which is no different than a point you’ve made often. The media, be it Fox, CNN, MSNBC, or some jackass who knows how to use YouTube, can find any asshole in any group of people to prove whatever point they want to make.

A large majority of Americans are inattentive and apathetic. A large majority of Americans vote one way every time just because.
I never talk politics at work. Ever. Never talk religion either. In 2004 a guy who use to work for me had one of those I voted stickers. I said, hey..I thought you didn’t care about politics(something he had said often)…he went on to say that he had to go vote for the first time in his life because it was God’s work. I just said ok, he went on to say that his pastor(he goes to one of those mega churches) said that they needed to register to vote and make sure George Bush stayed in office because he respected life and the sanctity of marriage…guy knew NOTHING about George Bush other than what his pastor said.

It always comes back to the same thing for me. The idiot Occupiers are portrayed as unselfish and compassionate –and downtrodden. The Tea Party (referred to, of course, as teabaggers) aren’t just stupid, they’re selfish and mean.
I don’t find them selfish and mean…I do find many of them to be ignorant, and many tagged along to a legitimate gripe to tie whatever issue they had. Some were racists, some were sucking at the tit of Fox News, and some were just crazy. Both started with an understandable resentment towards the fraud committed by Wall St. that led to the very serious financial collapse we are still suffering from.
I’m not sure how I feel about health reform for the record. I think there does need to be an overhaul to the system, my biggest disagreement wasn’t the sentiment, it was the timing. It was too much, and too fucked from the beginning and won’t do what it touts to do in an insanely compromised form. If the starting point is a compromise, it’s never a good bill to begin with. That’s my opinion.
I spend a lot of time in Canada. The hoops that people have to jump through there is ridiculous.So is the 13% sales tax on EVERY transaction. It seems so obvious to me that it is against everything that this country is about for the people to turn that kind of power over to the government. Especially when even the people who favor more government hold all politicians in such low regard. If I were a dictator, providing universal health care might be my number one priority. I don’t want socialized medicine and I sure as hell don’t want anybody messing with the medicare that I was FORCED to pay for the last 40 years. I think social security is a joke but I sure as hell want my checks after being FORCED to pay into it for 40 years. I’ll be glad to forfeit those checks if the government wants to pay me back with interest for every dime I was forced to pay. My kids and grand kids should be able to opt out of both SS and medicare. They should have medical savings accounts that, with compound interest, will give them all more than enough money to buy high deductible health insurance. In a truly free country, we would have that option. How many people know that SS is based on a lie and that they have ZERO guarantee that they will be paid their money?

Big corporations like Verizon are evil and we should blindly support the union’s strike solely on the principle that it’s a union because unions are good and corporations are evil. Of course none of us has any idea how to replace that technology once it gets taken away, we just assume it will always at our fingertips with or without the people who actually invent it, produce it, supply it, and maintain it.

Actually I think it is 70% and that is based on 2008 data. With the current unemployment it is likely even higher. The real problem is that the bottom 50% pay nothing and then get a refund of what they pay into the SS ponzi scheme. Give me back my SS deductions and let me invest it myself.

At this point in 2007, Guliani had the nomination “Wrapped up.” McCain was at 16%. If Romney gets the nomination, I won’t be thrlled but Obama will still be toast.

Bush was bad and that’s what got us Obama because everyone was ready for change.
Obama has lost many of his supporters, not saying they’ll vote for a Republican, but will they be motivated to vote at all? I know many Republicans who weren’t motivated to vote the last time around.
Then you add in the star struck kids who have finished school and can’t find a job, they’re not going to be so high on voting this time around. Add in the people who were just voting against any Republican and the anti-war crowd who are pissed at Obama now.
Obama’s message of change and hope worked the first time around because people were hurting and were mad whether it was because they’d lost their job or because they’d lost their loved one. Many of those same people along with some new people are still hurting and Obama’s message of hope now sounds like nothing more than BS to them.
People who work and pay in taxes are pissed that their money was squandered on now bankrupt companies.
People might have thought they wanted universal health care until they found out what Obamacare is all about and many of those same people don’t want it now as bad as they thought they did.
I could be wrong it wouldn’t be the first time, but I usually get it right when it comes to Presidential elections and just listening to regular Joe Blows discussions. I was wrong on the Gore/Bush election and thought Gore would win, but that’s the only one I’ve been wrong on since I became an adult.
Valid points. If Romney is the candidate, he’s your Kerry and if nothing else apathy will put Obama in. If Perry is the candidate, the memory of Bush will get people to vote against him. Christie was your shot. Huntsman could win, but won’t get the nomination because your fringe has taken over and he doesn’t pass the litmus test. Obama is Bush in 2008. Not Bush in 2004. The economy was buzzing along in 2004. The Iraq war was the issue in 2004and voters tend to trust the Republicans when it comes to national defense. It’s going to be an anybody-but Obama election. One of the major polls has Cain leading. If you add Cain and Perry together, you get something like 43%. Romney gets 23. All of the other candidates, including Bachman and Santorum are splitting the conservstive vote. Huntsman is the only guy who might be sharing votes with Romney and he is a non-factor. Liberals are always telling Republicans to pick the moderate and the moderates always lose. I heard Juan Williams sayt last night that Nixon got 38% of the black vote in 1968. If Romney wins the nomination and picks Cain as VP, he’ll drop Obama’s support amomng blacks by at least 15% and that alone will destroy Obama.
But if Bush was disliked as much in 2004 as he was in 2008 then Kerry would have beaten him.
Bush may not have been on the ticket in 2008 but it was still a vote against Bush and any Democratic candidate would have won.
This will be an election against Obama, he is every bit as disliked by the center as Bush was. He has as many left of center pissed off at him the same as Bush had of right of center pissed at him. I personally know of many Republicans that lean way right of center who couldn’t bring themselves to vote for Obama that just stayed home because they were pissed at Bush and in turn that translated over to McCain. Most rational Republicans knew they were losing the race in 2008. Most rational Democrats know they’re losing the race this time around.
Perry and Cain…that’s a scary monster. I will make sure and turn out to vote against that duo for sure. You are overestimating the sway Cain would have in the black community over Obama. You’re hopeful, I understand…I just can’t see it.

The occupiers represent a relatively small band of malcontents – and they are getting more than their “fair share” of media coverage. The occupiers apparently have no interest in self-governance. They want to extend government control in the interest of forcible redistribution of wealth at the expense of individual liberty.
They don’t seem to be interested or concerned with the limits the Constitution places on the federal government. Rather, they seem to prefer a central government without any restrictions on its power. Human rights to the occupiers are really privileges from government that can be bargained for with loud voices and votes. Of course, privileges can be taken away by governments that grant them.

Not all protesters are pot-smoking losers looking for attention, however I’m very confident that the majority of that crowd is not made of educated war vets. The one on the left makes a good point about the bailout being a farce.

There’s some major differences between what we saw in Egypt and what’s going on here. The Wall Street “protest” seems pretty lost and aimless, and it lacks a clear message. The protests in Egypt were a very clear call for the leaders to step down and bring about a regime change to end political corruption and oppression of the people.
And the guy on the right mentions two degrees and no job. It’s impressive that he has two degrees, but a degree is not a guarantee for employment. Hell, having a job isn’t a guarantee for employment. There is no such thing as a guarantee for employment.
They’re not morons, but I do disagree with their position. The real moron is anyone who thinks that showing me a video of war vets on Wall Street is going to get me to back down from my position that the protest is an aimless waste of time.

In what way have I been raped economically? I got a job immediately after college, which by the way cost 40k a year and I’ll have my school loans paid in full within the next year. I wasn’t laid off in the 2008 recession, in fact I still got an annual raise albeit not a huge one. And this past year my boss gave me a 15% raise. I’ll be sure to blow my rape whistle the next time he tries to give me more money for doing a good job.
I am completely aware that I’m not entitled to a damn thing. I earned all of that, because I’m smart and I work hard, and because I’m not afraid to take chances. I moved to Boston instead of coming home to Pittsburgh, and it worked out great for my career, even though it wasn’t the “safe” choice.
I recently had an epiphany when my dad sent me an email that my uncle had dug up info on my great-great grandfather. He was the very last body to be found from the Farm Hill Mine explosion out near Dunbar, PA. My great-great grandma had gone down to the mine for 18 months helping to identify dead bodies, and her husband was the very last one pulled out.
The epiphany I had was that I need to thank the Lord every single day that I don’t have to work in a coal mine or a steel mill, that I get to put on a nice suit, drive a nice car, and work out of an air conditioned office, and even work from home thanks to telecommunications technology.
Calling for the government to uphold a fair rule of law, and hold parties accountable that do wrong to the citizens, that’s perfectly acceptable. But I’m not convinced that that’s what this protest is about. It seems to me that this protest is a politically charged rant against “rich people”, where the protesters define “rich people” as “everybody else but me”.
Calling me a moron just further proves that you don’t know a damn thing, especially not about me.
What about people who are getting raped by the government and not only like it but want them to rape them some more?
One thing about big business if I don’t like how much their CEO makes or how much they charge for their product I don’t have to buy it and/or use them.
The government doesn’t give me a choice, if I don’t pay my income tax they can go into any bank account I have and take the money or they can take everything I own or lock me up. If I don’t pay my property tax they can auction off my house to the highest bidder.
Taxes are at their lowest rate since 1950.

You are all missing the point, by a mile. The reason why the Occupy Wall Street Movement is far more dangerous than the Tea Party is simple: credibiliity. Simply stated nobody, with the exception of the far-right media (Limbaugh, Hannity, Savage, etc) takes the Tea Party seriously (even the GOP largely ignores them) while a great many high-profile people seem more than willing to lend their names to supporting an Occupy Wall Street Movement that they really don’t understand: You will never see celebrities like Kanye West, Al Sharpton, Russell Simmons, Mos Def, Mark Ruffalo, Michael Moore, Tim Robbins or Susan Sarandon attend a Tea Party Rally. You will never see the AFL-CIO or any other labor union attend a Tea Party Rally; No self-respecting Columbia University faculty member wiould be caught dead at a Tea Party Rally (or at least none that valued their career) nor can I recall reading of the faculty at a single American college or university issue a “statement of solidarity” with the Tea Party Movement. The fact that they have drawn the support of so many Hollywood celebrities and members of the “intelligentsia” (who, just to reiterate the point, don’t really understand what it is they’re endorsing) lends a credibility to the Occupy Wall Street movement that the Tea Party can never hope to match (rightly or wrongly). Because they have credibilty that means a great many people are going to take them seriously who do not take the Tea Party seriously. THAT is what makes them dangerous.
Which group do you think Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez would be most likely to support?

Fighting with the police, doing drugs and deficating in public is a good way to get your point across. I’m sure the same actions occur all the time at Tea Party events.
Isn’t it time for these people to go home yet? Even Bloomberg is calling for these idiots to get on with their “lives” already. He should set up a few job fairs. That would get them to leave.
My favorite is the guy who pooped on the police car.
The protesters may have more credibility in terms of celebrity backers and media attention, but they have yet to have an impact on an election. The Tea Party made an impact on the 2010 mid-term elections, the protesters have yet to hold sway over the ballot. That’s not to say they couldn’t, just that they haven’t.

He mentions Obama’s election and the Santelli moment and ignores the 2010 election when democrats lost in epic numbers. That was more important than any Tea Party or Occupier demonstration.
You point to Obama’s poll numbers but don’t point out the dismal numbers of those that won in 2010 by those Epic proportions.
Regardless of how you feel about this movement, or your thoughts on what you think you think of these people…this should make you think something.
A little heavy handed? Maybe…but I don’t remember any of this happening at the tea party protests. We live in a country where no one should be silenced. Disagree, sure…disagree strongly…that’s ok too. But aren’t these the rights we’re sending young men and women in harms way to protect?
Where’s the video of the guy shitting on a police car? That didn’t happen at the Tea Party rallies either. I know a little about editing for TV. Showing the cops reaction without showing what precipitated it makes the video worthless. I wasn’t moved. I will say that Hillary isn’t aging well, though.
