I love bowl season and really don’t care for the idea of a playoff.
In my fantasy land, I like watching football. It really doesn’t matter to me one way or the other if the college football champion is voted for or wins in a playoff. Really, it has no real impact on my life what-so-ever.
What does have an impact on my life is what I am entertained by each day. During bowl season, there is a college football game on every night. I like that because I like being entertained by a football game. Bowls will die if there is a playoff so don’t anyone tell us they could have both…it is outside the world of reality.
If bowls die, the weeknights between say December 15 and January 1 will be filled with programing such as, “A Disney Christmas”. What sounds better….”A Disney Christmas” or say Minnesota vs. Boston College? The football games wins every time in my fantasy land where I want to be entertained.
Sorry if anyone feels a sense of moral outrage that there isn’t a playoff. Get over it…..there is 10% unemployment. A football playoff doesn’t matter in real life.
I pay no attention to the polls. Most weeks I might be able to tell you who’s ranked first, but after that, I have no clue. They’re stupid.
Good point John. It is not where you start, it is where you finish. You want to be #1 on January 15th, not September 1st. I like Mike V.’s approach about the Bowl Games. They are powerful but unfortunately Mike V., a playoff is imminent.
Mike. I understand your concern for a 10% unemployment rate but football is an escape from such real life problems.
.
If the NFL, went by your “gee golly game every night” strategy,” the Colts would win the Super Bowl every year.
That’s the great part about sports competition, Winners/Losers/Playoffs.
I would surely trade in Minnesota/BC Wednesday night for a, Florida/USC and Ohio St/Texas doubleheader Saturday.
Sports is about being the best, and if you particpate/watch something that doesnt crown the best every year, than how can you not walk away unfullfilled?
I like having the option of watching more games but I also remember when the second game of ABC’s Saturdsay doubleheader was a big deal. That was back when there were two games on every week.
check the papers.. pretty sure theres a great saturday night game every night this fall.
Obvuoulsy. But it was a much bigger deal when ABC picked one game for the 4:00 Saturday spot. It made that game seem like a much bigger deal. That’s when you would see ND-USC, Ohio St-Michigan, Alabama-Auburn. There was more focus on the gsme because the schedule wasn’t diluted. Not saying it was better, necessarily. Just different.
I don’t want a football game every night. The crap ESPN puts on Tuesday and Wednesday nights in October is unwatchable.
What I do want is a different game on every night between December 15 and January 1 when I am taking time off of work. I even like the afternoon games between Christmas and New Years. I live in the Charlotte area and go to the bowl game every year….it gives me something to do. I like being entertained.
well mike, that’s like ordering Baskin Robbins and not including anyone else. the majority of college football crazies wanna see a conclusion to a seaon that a bowl series doesnt provide.
Oh, one other thing. Yes, the additional practice time is important for bowl teams. The players it is most important to are the freshmen and sophs who may have been on scout team or second/third string. They will be the starters the following year and the additional practice time helps them develop. Coaches can spend more time with them.
Want to solve the imbalance of this problem? Boost spring season up to 20 practices. Teams that make bowl games only get 10.
Good point Mike V.
