ROETHLISBERGER AND HALEY HAVE NOT SPOKEN

I really don’t know how much longer I can hold up.

If Ben Roethlisberger and Todd Haley don’t speak soon I’m not going to be able to function.

Have they no regard for the hopes and aspirations of the The Steeler Nation?

There are only 6 1/2 months until the first exhibition game.

Where’s Mayor Ravenstahl?

Where’s Governor Corbett?

Can somebody wake Bob Casey from his coma and get us some federal mediation?

Maybe it’s time to get a few thousand people waving Terrible Towels outside Steelers headquarters on the South Side.

Quick. Somebody get on that.

  John,

  When I opened The Trib on the web today, the first thing I saw was that Todd Haley has yet to call Big Ben. The story opened saying Ben was discouraged about this neglect.

  My first response was to recall a wise elderly woman speaking to a group on Valentines Day years ago. She stated that her late husband NEVER forgot such holidays; her own birthday, their anniversary, etc. She addressed the women saying she could advise them how to have their husbands also to be so good at important date memory.

  She said, “I reminded him of each event ahead of time, so that there was no way he could possibly have forgotten. Why should I allow all kinds of strife and turmoil to arise, I simply preempted emotionalism by reminding him in advance.”

  Hey Ben, you want to talk to Todd Haley? Call him. End of story.

  It’s hard to figure out how a relatively newlywed man, with a pretty wife, is worried about a phone call from some new OC.

  Grow up, Ben. If it is that important, call him. The telephone lines work in both directions.

  I think it’s pretty darn funny the way the media is tripping all over themselves regarding this story, but with that being said, it is kind of odd that they haven’t spoken to date.

  If I knew “Big” Ben’s cell phone number, I would call and urge him to please, please give Todd Haley a buzz and settle this thing once and for all before I and thousands of Stiller fans wind up with nervous breakdowns. The tension is just unbearable……

  I’m sure with the combine coming up, he has nothing better to do then call Ben.
  This is so childish on Ben’s part and the media, who really cares if a man calls another man? When it’s time to tell Ben what his job will be, he’ll get told the same as everyone else.

  As others have said if this bothers Ben so much, I’m sure someone will give him Haley’s number and he can call him, but then we’d probably be hearing Haley wouldn’t take his phone call.

  I read at Behind the Steel Curtain that the NFL has regulations about player-coach contact off season, especially new coaches. Anyhow, no one knows if Ben really cares.Most of this stuff is invented because there is nothing else to talk about.

  I love what they are doing. The owner decided it was time for everyone in the organization, from the head coach down, to have their noses rubbed in a little crap. It will be good for all of them. Nothing wrong with shaking people up a little.

  Ben wasn’t running the team. There was no vacuum of strong leadershp that would have caused him to be running the team. Sometimes, it is important for a boss to remind the employees who the boss is and I think that is what the owners are doing. This move can reset how everyone looks at their job on the team and make positive adjustments accordingly.

  Vinnie & Cook and the rest of the gang at KDKA-FM are the only ones concerned with Roethlisberger’s bigger-than-the-organization’s ego. Ed Bouchette yesterday on ESPN opined on the subject. He mentioned that he had “talked with Ben,” but hadn’t talked with Haley. And that’s the problem: The local sports media are content with reporting only one side of every story, regardless of the subject matter.
  Ben Roethlisberger is a notorious liar.
  And the local sports media — especially Ron Cook — are “Big Ben Enablers.”

  Ben will be traded to Indy for their first round draft pick. They will select Andrew Luck. Hence why Haley could give two craps about keeping Ben happy. Ben can be reunited with Bruce Arians.

  Not Ben’s job to call Haley. It’s Haley’s job to call Ben.

  Haley’s a douchebag. Always has been.

  This “hire” by Art II will be the move that gets him “fired” by Dan, and the other son Dan Rooney Jr. will be next in line to call the shots.

  In places where I’ve worked, I never expected the boss to come and kiss my ass. It was more likely that I would kiss his ass and go to see him and “welcome him aboard.”

  Why would the Steelers allow Haley to potentially break the CBA less than a year after signing it. These guys have much more to do than hold hands and sing, “We Are The World”.

  How sad the Yinzers are as sports fans where a story like this is news of the day. Why does Steelers’ news have to dominate the day’s coverage of sports? I am getting to the point of not even turning the radio on anymore. I have stopped watching local news a long time ago. The radio was my last resort for entertainment. The FAN can beat any Steeler topic to death. No real good sports analysis goes on at that station.

  Triblive Radio. I had Mike Eruzione on today on the 32 anniversary of the Miracle on Ice. The Fan would rather ask listeners where they were when the US beat the USSR. That’s the difference.

  When I saw the headline, I thought, “really, John – you’ve drunk the Kool-aid too?” Then I read your post. GREAT STUFF.

  Down here in Tennessee the local TV sports guy is ALSO on the radio. Although he does not do political humor, he is able to ENTERTAIN INFINITELY more on the radio, cuz on TV he has to “report it straight”. However, on the radio, he banters back and forth with “the other guy” at multiple “comedic” levels.

  I haven’t heard your Internet-broadcasted program yet, but I’m guessing it’s a hoot (TV definitely cramped your style too).

  I’ve always said that you only get one chance to make a first impression and Todd Haley showing up at his introductory press conference needing a shave and in a tee shirt (with Steeler logo or not), he gives me the impression that he is a spoiled rich kid from Upper St. Clair. I hope that I’m wrong.
