SCOUTING T.O.

This is why I love having Joe Butler of Metro Index Scouting to go to when I need a serious, unbiased evaluation of a football or basketball player.

There have been a lot of words written and spoken about Terrell Owens since he signed with the Bengals and varying opinions on what he’ll mean to the Bengals.

Nobody has a better analysis of what kind of player the 2010 version of  Owens  is and what he  will do for the Bengals than Joe Butler.

  Joe: Anybody who would change his name for non-religious reasons and to simply to draw attention to himself is an idiot. Chad Johnson is a certified idiot.
  The Johnson/Owens combo is going to be interesting, to say the least, for ESPN, which loathes Owens but promotes Johnson. In my opinion, both Johnson and Owens are one in the same: A team-dystroying distraction.

  Great way to put it Bobzilla. A team destroying distraction is an excellent statement. All the media focus will be on the Chad/Terrell show instead of the Bengals. These 2 are definitely anti-team players.
  Marvin Lewis wishes he was back in McDonald PA playing Quiksilver Golf Course rather than listening to Owens on the sidelines.

  I think a big question will be are the Bengals going to continue to play smash mouth football, or are they going back to a no-huddle scheme like 2005? I personally think a ’05 Houshmanzadeh is better than a ’10 Owens.

  Houshmanzadeh was on the Rise while Owens is levelled off and on the decline. Jury is still out on the Bengals O-Line but their O-Line has lots of upside.

  I hate the Bengals as much as anyone from Pittsburgh, but I think they are going to have a nice team and have a strong season.

  You can hate all you want on Ocho, but he never got a DUI, beat or raped a woman. He probably doesn’t even drink.

  I’ll admit his sideline antics get old – but he still performs on the field and having TO plus Antonio Bryant on the field is only going to help.

  With TO and AB getting up there in age, I think they might check their egos at the door and be team players. But I guess time will tell.

  Chad Johnson would make the Steelers better? How can disruption and chaos make a team better? You use this same logic regarding Roethlisberger, who has been a disruptive force three of the past five seasons. There is no way a disruptive force makes any team better. Check the Bengals recent history. They’ve been sad losers with a lot of high draft picks who have been talented but also disruptive.

  Ocho’s only real drama came when he “demanded” to be traded. Outside of that, it is just all the stupid post-touchdown stuff he does. Wearing the HoF coat…”proposing” to a cheerleader…holding up signs asking the commisioner to NOT fine him.

  Steeler Nation needs to learn that there are good players on other teams. You must give credit where credit is due.

  I’m a PSU guy and was introduced to football during the Chuck Knoll era. So I appreciate the “act like you’ve been there” guys in sports. I’m not a big fan of individualism in team sports, but you need to be able to tip your hat to good players, even the ones that don’t play in Pittsburgh.

  So why doesn’t he quit then?

  If he puts up with it when he doesn’t want to? He’s nothing but a puppet.

  Lewis is hoping Chad Johnson and Terrell Owens neutralize each other. Marvin Lewis is not a quitter. Owens has the ability to wear people out. Ask Coach Andy Reid.

  Crash, that is a great question. Crash, how about when veteran announcer Curt Gowdy called Tony Dorsett the musician Tommy Dorsey during a game.
