BRING BACK GENE LAMONT

Back in whatever year it was that the Pirates fired Gene Lamont (I was too tired to look it up, I mean, does it matter?), I said he didn’t deserve to be fired because he had no chance to win and it wouldn’t matter who they hired to replace him.

I, of course, couldn’t have been more right.

The “Fire John Russell”  movement is getting larger and louder by the day.

In case you didn’t know, Russell is the current manager of your Buccos.

He never had a chance, either.

And, by the way, if Russell were to put on his Pirates uniform and stand in the middle of Ross Park Mall, what percentage of the people who saw him would know who he is?

I’m guessing 10%, tops.

If Chuck Tanner, who hasn’t managed the Pirates in 25 years, were to stand next to him, he’d be recognized by 90% of the people.

There are plenty of things for the fine citizens of Western Pennsyvlania to worry about. Who’s managing the Pirates ain’t one of them.

There can’t possibly be a more irrelevant job on the planet.

Gene Lamont was a nice guy and a smart baseball man. He was the boss the last time they played a meaningful game in Septemeber and he should still be managing the Pirates.

In fact, the Nuttings should fire John Russell today, apologize to Lamont and make him manager for life.

And see if anybody notices.

Or cares.
