So, you’re an adherent to the “kill the messenger’ philosophy? This wasn’t an opinion piece. And ABC,CBS.NBC and NPR are all much “worse” than Fox news.

Who do you trust, Jason Blair and the NY Times? The Post has a lot more credibility than the NYT.

Ever wonder why the Austa-Saudi overlords at Fox never seem concerned about alienating black viewers? They don’t have any:
The New York Times’ Brian Stelter tweeted that, according to Nielsen Media Research, Fox News has averaged just 29,000 black viewers in primetime so far this television season (9/09-7/10). That represents just 1.38% of its 2.102 million total viewer audience.
CNN and MSNBC, meanwhile, both have far more black viewers, both in absolute terms and as a proportion of their overall audiences.
MSNBC has averaged 145,000 black viewers, representing 19.3% of its 751,000 total viewer audience.
CNN has averaged 134,000 black viewers, representing 20.7% of its 648,000 total viewer audience.
Congrats Fox viewers.
No. Congrats to black viewers for pulling the Democrat lever for 60 years and being taken for granted. Black viewers need to realize that the Dems want to “keep them in their place”. They’ve done a great job of it. Take a look at what a nice job the dems are doing in the cities with education and the blacks vote for them at a 95% rate. They need to change their voting habits and their viewing habits. Fox isn’t the problem.
No, but if GE = NBC = MSNBC had a Saudi as the second largest shareholder, there would be a post and conspiracy about it.
GE is in cahoots with the Obama administration and pushing his agenda because GE will benefit from cap and trade.

How about when MSNBC’s morning host admits to working with the administration on talking points? I readily admit that Newsbusters is a biased site, but the video speaks for itself. That alone constitutes more “evidence” of collusion than anyone here has posted against Fox.
Fox is no more biased than ABC, NBC and CBS have been for the last 60 years. It’s just that it’s biased in the wrong direction for the people who enjoyed that 60 year monopoly.

This is a blog. Of course, I wouldn’t walk up to someone and call him a fairy. I wouldn’t walk up to Nate McClouth and say “you stink”, either. It was a stupid little play on words in a blog. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve posted insults directed at me.
That’s even worse. You say something rude about gays and hide behind a computer. You are a closeted bigot then. Maybe when your book signing starts, I’ll be at the local bookstore and we’ll see if you call me a fairy then or if you back down.
I’ve said rude things about a lot of people. It’s a blog. Don’t waste your time at the mall. I won’t call you a fairy. I didn’t call anybody a fairy here, either. I had a little fun with a word. You were offended. I didn’t realize that fairy was such a hot button word. I don’t consider every person who has insulted me and my family on this blog to be a coward because they’re “hiding behind a computer.” It’s how a blog works. I can take it.

I’m going to change the post. While on a walk with my dog I realized I was out of line. I went for a cheap laugh.
The post was out of line, and an apology was probably in order. The bigger point, about anonymity, the nature of blogging, and playing somewhat offensive word games is this; You can make fun of roughly 98% of Barney Frank’s character. He is an elected official. Make fun of his weight, his bald spot, his accent, his views, policies etc. They’re fair game because he’s a public official. A reader on this site can make fun of you without stepping over the line because you’re a public figure profiting from this site. But when someone, including you mocks someone’s race, ethnicity, religion, orientation, etc. it clearly crosses a line because you’re insulting everyone who happens to see the insult and who is a member of that group. From what I’ve seen on here, you’re not a sexist or a bigot, just someone who shoots (or types) from the hip. So long as I think thats the case, I’ll keep reading. If I start to doubt it, I’ll spend me time surfing somewhere else and you’ll lose more hits than just me.

I stand behind my comment 100%. Calling a little guy an Oompa Loompa is funny. Calling a gay dude a fairy is demeaning and mean spirited and the only people amused by it are people that are amused by degrading homosexuals. It is possible to make a gay joke that is funny and not dehumanizing. That’s the difference between you and people like me and Bill Maher
What if I’m offended by short jokes—which I’m not? I’ve been 5-6 most of my life and it has never been an issue with me. But I’ve always been amused at how you’re not allowed to make fat jokes anymore or make fun of someone who stutters, but short jokes are OK. And, by the way, I did not call anybody a fairy.
John, I just noticed that the title of the post is also a gay joke. Not great, not even immediately recognizable as a gay joke, but not terrible and not offensive. Stick with jokes about tops and bottoms and “blow” as a double entendre and you’ll be fine. No one can get offended by that.
Maybe jokes about people stuttering are frowned upon because it is a certified disorder? Would you make fun of someone with Crohn’s disease? As far as fat jokes, fat is the new average. So I guess that’s why its frowned upon now.

Little Jimmy, you are so wrong. I come from a generation that respected women because, well, we respected them because of what they were and represented. Unlike your generation who have put them out onto the street in the workforce so that you can stay home and watch Oprah. In the meantime, your little woman is getting it where ever she can from the few real men still working. I’m not the one insulting gays and saying it’s ok to call them a fairy on a blog but not in person. Maybe the newspapers you work for should see that little fairy comment you wrote. You’d be unemployed in no time.
I don’t know if you guys have noticed it, but blogs thrive BECAUSE OF ANONYMITY. That’s why you have usernames. I’ve been posting items from anonymous people for five months who make fun of my appearance, tell me what a failure I was in my career etc. The anonymity of the blog allows them to do that. Do you think they would say those things to my face? I don’t consider them cowards. They’re just wrong.

I knew you would say that but that’s not why I changed my mind. I don’t expect you to believe that and I don’t care.
Right. You defended your post and then someone commented about informing your employer and you suddenly change your mind. Regardless, WTAE and the newspapers you work for are very public and if word got out that you used the word “fairy” in a blog about Barney Frank, you would be punished. You are a public figure, not anonymous on this blog and are held to a higher standard. If you think I’m kidding, just think about some of the reasons that people in public positions have been punished before and you’ll see that I’m right. All it would take is a couple of phone calls to WTAE or the Indiana Gazette from a few offended people.
As I said. I knew you would say that. If you’re right, changing the post won’t make a difference. That’s not why I changed it. I did it because I didn’t want it to continue to be an issue for people who hadn’t seen it yet. And I realized the play on words wasn’t worth the aggravation.
See what happens when you give in to the “my feelings are hurt” crowd. It doesn’t matter if you apologize or not. If you do apologize, they use it against you anyhow.
There was nothing wrong with your original joke in the first place. It was a play on words and it was humorous. The people who are going to be upset over it need to get over it.

As the gay person that originally wrote the post, I was offended by the term. Did you guys ever think that maybe it is highly offensive to us, just like the N word is offensive to African Americans. Maybe some of you should get out of your little bubbles. Walk into work tomorrow and call a gay person a fairy and see what happens. You’ll either get called into HR or the person will kick the crap out of you.
Got it. The word won’t appear here again, but I will make fun of Barney Frank at every opportunity. He may be the most damaging man in D.C.
If someone is so offended by the use of fairy, which was not even directed at them, maybe they’re not so comfortable being gay. Stereotypes exist for a reason. Not everyone fits a certain stereotype, but to be offended about the use of one on a blog about someone else completely is ridiculous. If John comes up to you in person and calls you a fairy in a threatening or malicious tone, then you have a right to be upset. Until then, it’s only a meaningless joke.
I’m a straight guy who believes in gay rights like marriage , military, employment., etc……., but I have to defend JS in this case. His ” fairy” comment may have been a bit of a cheap shot but it wasn’t aimed at any particular individual in the room ., only Barney Frank. Anyone who has been following the blog knows there has been an abundance of good natured ribbing and humor hitting a bit below the belt. Sometimes it works., other times not., ive been guilty myself in criticizing Mark Foley, Larry and the Toetappers., etc……with some remarks perhaps insensitive but not hateful. Let’s allow the spirited debate to continue…….

Anyone offended by the obscenity being held in Westchester County this coming Saturday? The party of the common folk is holding the wedding of their fairy (there’s that word again) princess. Quite a contrast to the wedding of Jenna Bush down by the lake in Crawford., you know the party of the rich. Whenh is this country going to wake up to the scam? Maybe November. If I were the RNC Chairman, I would run ads with split screen vids of the two weddings.
Here, I thought the Clinton’s left the White House dirt poor.
