WHY AM I FORCED TO PAY FOR THIS?

I have a confession to make. If I’m on a plane and I see a group of 20-something Middle Eastern men sitting together, I get nervous. Maybe not nervous enough to get off the plane but definitely nervous enough to pay attention to how often they use the bathroom.

Here’s another confession. If I see a group of 20 something Swedish men, I don’t get nervous.

If that gives you the right to accuse me of being a bigot. I plead guilty.

Juan Williams was fired by NPR for making the confession that I just made.

I never listen to NPR and wouldn’t if I were in solitary confinement at Sing-Sing, and I often wonder why I’m forced to pay for it.

Why do we want the government to have a radio station? I get 150 stations on XM, why does the government need to take money from me for another one?

I don’t listen becasuse NPR is ridiculously liberal, but I wouldn’t want to pay for it if the government hired Rush Limbaugh to run it.

The predictable, knee jerk, politically correct, gutless, liberal reaction to Williams’ perfectly logical and understandable statement should tell you all you need to know about what goes on at NPR every day.

De-fund it.

  • Ochotexto

Any chance JWilliams just sucks ? Regardless of bias.

    • http://justwatchthegame.com JohnSteigerwald

I never listen to NPR but I’m going to take a wild guess and say they have nobody better than Williams. I just know I shouldn’t be FORCED to support it.

  • Nick gholami

I am from a mid east heritage. I came to US when I was 16 & made a life for myself here with NO plans to go back. guess what, I also do get nervouse if i see mid eastern guys on my plane too. Its just the facts & I hope NPR comes to take their station off my radio.

  • Mason

If it was Fox News, MSNBC, CNN, etc that fired him – I wouldn’t think it was stupid, but well within their rights. The fact that it was NPR changes it. NPR is a Not For Profit organization that survives on donations and grants.

First and foremost, all government funding (although it is very small compared to their total income) should be pulled. There are countless examples of truly detestable statements said by others (I believe it was Nina Totenberg that wished on-air for a republican politicians grandchildren to die of aids).

Secondly, this happens to coincide with George Soros (you know, the foreigner that has invested tens, if not hundreds, of millions into our election process) donating $1.8 million to NPR a couple weeks ago.

    • kilrain

PC is committing suicide thanks to crap like this. If O’Reilly and Newt Gingrich are in agreement with Ed Rendell,Bill Beckell and Whoopi Goldberg you know it’s a ridiculous decision. I love when “liberals” show their true colors. they just cannot help themselves.

    • Mike

so now a naturalized citizen doesn’t count as a real American? I’ll explain that to my Grandma. by choosing to become a citizen it becomes his electoral process too. I know George Soros is the bogeyman that Republicans look under their bed for everynight before bed but honestly Mason I expected better from you.

      • http://justwatchthegame.com JohnSteigerwald

Who said he wasn’t a real American. He’s a typical rich socialist. “I got what I need, now the rest of you share.”

      • Mason

I made a mistake. I posted before confirming. Soro’s is a citizen. My mistake.

        • http://justwatchthegame.com JohnSteigerwald

          Bad citizen.

          • Mike

What makes him a bad citizen? Donating to Democratic candidates? Trying to defeat George Bush? He has invested millions to help legalize drugs.

          • http://justwatchthegame.com JohnSteigerwald

He’s a socialist who used his wealth to manipulate currency. Now that he has all the money he’ll ever need, he wants o elect people who will confiscate a lot more of mine to pay for socialist programs that he likes. He’s a typical rich liberal who is really good at finding ways to spend other people’s money. Kerry and Ted Kennedy come to mind.

            ****************************

In 1992, Soros succeeded in organizing a major currency speculation which triggered the collapse of the British pound sterling. The Wall Street Journal wrote that the reduction of the cost of the euro to the cost level of the US dollar was like the deal of life for stock exchange operators. Such affairs make billionaires.

          • Mike

I didn’t know currency speculation was illegal John. It almost sounds as if you are upset at him for making money. And if a single billionaire has that much power over a countries financial market it is an argument for LESS billionaires not more.

          • http://justwatchthegame.com JohnSteigerwald

I didn’t say I was upset with him for making money. I said he’s a typical rich soicialistt. He gets all the money he’ll ever need and then decides he’d like to spread everybody else’s wealth around. I do agree with him on legalizing drugs.

          • Mike

So everyone who is rich should only be in favor of lower taxes on the rich? And does Dan Rooney now count as a bad citizen in your book since he publicly endorsed Obama?

          • http://justwatchthegame.com JohnSteigerwald

Everybody should be in favor of lower taxes on everybody. Dan Rooney wanted to be ambassador to Ir4eland so he sold his political soul. Disappointing.

  • Satire 24/7

Ah yes ,they are eating their own. More signs of the implosion of the far left. Maybe he was really fired because he is black. Being honest and level headed didn’t help him either. Maybe they can replace him with the leader of the rent is too damn high party. Now he would fit right in.

  • Chipped Ham

George Soros just gave National Progessive Radio $1.8. Always follow the money.

Open-minded liberals are only open-minded if you agree with their “America is the devil” drivel.

  • Mike

And people such as Palin, Gingrich and Huckabee are saying NPR is “censoring” Juan Williams. How is being fired from your job because your employers disagree with you “censorship”?

    • http://justwatchthegame.com JohnSteigerwald

There’s no disputing that he was censored. I was censored at KDKA. So is everyone who works there now. Your employer has every right to censor you. It’s the government that doesn’t have the right. The problem with NPR is that the censorship is selective. The latest revision of the excuse for firing him is that he is not supposed to be expressing opinions in his role at NPR. But they have people in less analytical roles than Williams (reporters like Nina Totenberg) who express LIBERAL opinions all the time. It was blatantly biased and stupid and, if we’re lucky, it will speed up its demise.

      • Mike

I have absolutely NO idea who that is and don’t feel like looking it up.

And sorry but the word censorship to me implies gov’t action. And Palin Gingrich and Huckabee all chose that word because of that connotation. What happened to you at KDKA or Juan Williams here is editorial control in my opinion.

        • http://justwatchthegame.com JohnSteigerwald

          Same thing.

      • Frank

You want to talk about priorities, Juan Williams is censored and fired at his place of work, but this guy keeps his job as a professor at a Pennsylvania university…

        http://www.breitbart.tv/college-professor-calls-for-israels-destruction/

Scary. Let me guess, is this one of those “moderate Muslims” that I keep hearing about?

    • DormontDirtBag

No one would mind the firing if the employer didn’t have its hand in the taxpayers’ pocket. And since NPR receives government subsidies, its cowardly dismissal of Williams (due entirely to the content of his speech) is much closer to a violation of the First Amendment than if Fox did the same thing. Just another reason why the concept of government paying for a government propaganda machine (NPR) is nauseating under any circumstances.

      • http://justwatchthegame.com JohnSteigerwald

NPR is not bound by the 1st amendment. The govt. is.

        • DormontDirtBag

But when a media orgnization is bought, paid for, subsidized and “overseen” by Congress, it IS the government …. at least arguably.

          • http://justwatchthegame.com JohnSteigerwald

I agfree but I don’t think you would win that argument in court. Most people don’t understand our right to free speech. They don’t realize that it only applies to the government. KDKA can tell all it’s employees that they will be fired immediately if they say anything critical of Luke Ravenstahl. That is KDKA’s right. The employees can quit.

  • Mike

He just got a brand spanking new $2 million contract from Fox News. Being afraid of Muslims pays well. I should look into it.

    • http://justwatchthegame.com JohnSteigerwald

Fox ain’t number one for nuthin”.

      • Mike

Fox does the job of getting viewers to tune in better than anyone else. No one is disputing that.

        • http://justwatchthegame.com JohnSteigerwald

Liberals are also coming out in his defense.

          • Mike

Good for them. I could really care less. Pundits constantly play musical chairs with media outlets anyway.

          • Frank

Whoopi Goldberg and Ed Rendell to name just two. Wait, are they really liberal or are they Fox plants? Get out the tin foil hats.

          • Matt

How can anyone not defend JW? It’s almost as if the lady that fired him can stand the fact that people want to see and hear him and that he has theability to get additional work.

  • Haas

Liberals don’t seem to like liberal concpets like freedom of speech

  • saneman

I actually think PBS is fine. PBS has come up with many fine programs that even non liberals have watched even if they do not admit it. But NPR is a waste. I lean liberal and I even I find it tremendously boring. Trust me. My liberal friends are not happy about this becuase NPR just cemented the stereotype about a liberal network not tolerating any kind of dissenting view. This is bad for free speech. I can’t believe they were that stupid to do this.

  • Tim

Also Juan Williams wasn’t talking about 20 year old Muslim men. He was talking about people in Muslim garb make him nervous. The 9/11 hijackers didn’t wear muslim clothes so they’d fit in. And how does he know people are identifying themselves “first and foremost” as Muslims? You can’t be a good American and a Muslim?

    • http://justwatchthegame.com JohnSteigerwald

so you think it was a fireable offense?

  • Tim

At least you’ve always been for de-funding. O’Reilly is being hypocritcal in only calling for it to be de funded now that Juan Williams had his contract terminated.

  • Ken

There should be no NPR or PBS. The government doesn’t need to be in broadcasting.

Shame about Juan williams. I don’t always agree with him, but I like him. He’s a liberal, but a pretty reasonable one who sees both sides. Of course, the left has probably been out to get him for a while since he’s had the gall to be on Fox, that network that is supposedly purely conservative.

    • Chad Farthouse

Yeah, Juan Williams is a liberal in the same way that the Washington Generals are a basketball team.

      • http://justwatchthegame.com JohnSteigerwald

Of course, you think Fox News created him. He was a liberal long before there was a Fox News. If he doesn’t qualify as a liberal, who does?

      • Naper

You’re as funny as your name. Hilarious!!

        • Chad Farthouse

Thanks Naper! Youy are a swell, reasonable, and intelligent gentleman.

      • Ken

Typical reaction of every left winger to Fox. Everyone they have on, even a long time liberal like Williams or Alan Colmes, regardless of what they say, somehow isn’t really a liberal.

        • Mike

Alan Colmes isn’t a liberal. At least not in the mold of a liberal as Hannity is a conservative. The Hannity and Colmes show would of been INFINETLY more interesting as Hannity and Olbermann, though neither of them would never do it because they are both too narcisstic and would be afraid of getting their hair messed up.
